Kochi: Mammootty’s acclaimed film Bramayugam, which bagged four Kerala State Film Awards, is set to reach the international stage with a special screening at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

The film will feature in the ‘Where Forest Meets the Sea’ section of the museum’s showcase, making it the only Indian film to be included in that category. The screening is scheduled for February 12, 2026, marking the finale of the series that runs from January 10 to February 12.

Directed by Rahul Sadasivan and produced under the banners of Night Shift Studios and Wynot Studios, Bramayugam is set in the 17th century and follows the story of Koduman Potty, played by Mammootty. The film explores themes of caste and political oppression faced by the Panan community, unfolding like a dark folk tale.

The film is also notable for being the first full-length black-and-white Malayalam feature released in recent decades.

At the Kerala State Film Awards, Bhramayugam won four honours — Best Actor (Mammootty), Best Character Actor (Sidharth Bharathan), Best Background Music (Christo Xavier), and Best Makeup (Ronex Xavier).

The film has already attracted international recognition. Its sound design was taken as a case study at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, England. Additionally, Bramayugam was ranked second on Letterboxd’s list of the world’s best horror films of 2024.
