Pattambi: Actor Beena R. Chandran was teaching her class at Paruthur CEUP School when the news of her winning the State Film Award broke. As the announcement was made, her colleagues rushed to share the joyous news, leading to a celebration with both students and staff.
Later in the day, the actor was busy preparing for a one-act play performance at her former school, Paruthur High School. Known for her long-standing involvement in amateur theatres, Beena won the Best Actress award for her role in the film Thadavu, directed by Fazil Razak.

Beena expressed her surprise at winning the award to Mathrubhumi, saying, “Everyone said I would win, but I never expected it. It’s a huge honour to be recognized alongside a renowned actress like Urvashi.” Beena is the daughter of PT Ramachandran and Santhakumari, former Gram Panchayat President of Paruthur and retired teacher. Her husband is KM Vijayakumar.
The 54th State Film Awards were announced on Friday by Minister Saji Cherian. The award winners were selected by a jury headed by noted director and screenwriter Sudhir Mishra. Director Priyanandan and cinematographer Azhakappan were the primary jury presidents. The jury members were director Lijo Jose Pellissery and writer N S Madhavan.
