Bengali filmmaker Anik Dutta died after allegedly falling from his Kolkata residence. Police have launched an investigation as the film fraternity mourns his loss.
Kolkata: Filmmaker Anik Dutta died on Wednesday after reportedly falling from the terrace of his multi-storey home in south Kolkata, police said.
He was rushed to a private hospital in the Dhakuria area, where doctors pronounced him dead, a senior police officer confirmed.
A police team has begun examining the scene, though Dutta’s family has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
Members of the Bengali film fraternity, including actors, directors and technicians, gathered at the hospital soon after news of his death emerged.
Dutta gained widespread recognition with his 2012 hit ‘Bhooter Bhabishyat’, a film celebrated for its blend of political and social satire within a supernatural narrative. The work is widely regarded as a landmark in contemporary Bengali cinema.
He followed it with ‘Ascharya Pradip’, continuing his trademark commentary on social issues.
His filmography also includes critically acclaimed titles such as ‘Aparajito’, ‘Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo’ and ‘Borunbabur Bondhu.’ (PTI)
