Malayalam filmmaker-actor Basil Joseph may be on the verge of a major Telugu foray, and fans believe a collaboration with superstar Allu Arjun could be in the works.

Speculation gained momentum after Basil attended the pre-wedding celebrations of Allu Arjun’s brother, Allu Sirish, and Nayanika Reddy on March 2, 2026. The star-studded event brought together prominent names from across Indian cinema. However, it was Basil’s presence — and his interactions with leading Telugu filmmakers — that caught the attention of Malayalam cinephiles.

Photos and videos from the celebrations quickly surfaced online, prompting widespread discussion about whether Basil and Allu Arjun are planning a project together.

Social media fuels collaboration rumours

Cinema forums and social media platforms were abuzz soon after images from the event circulated. Reddit users speculated about a potential announcement, with comments suggesting “something exciting is cooking”. On X, fans described the appearance as a sign that a “project is loading”.

Despite the mounting buzz, there has been no official confirmation from either Basil Joseph or Allu Arjun regarding a collaboration.

Basil Joseph’s expanding career graph

Basil Joseph first rose to national prominence with the Malayalam superhero film 'Minnal Murali', starring Tovino Thomas. The film established him as one of Malayalam cinema’s most inventive contemporary directors.

Since then, Basil has increasingly transitioned into acting, taking on lead roles while maintaining that direction remains his long-term priority. He has not directed a feature since 2021.

There were earlier reports linking him to a Hindi project featuring Ranveer Singh as the iconic superhero 'Shaktimaan', but the venture did not materialise.

Basil will next be seen in 'Athiradi', scheduled for release in May 2026.

What’s next for Allu Arjun?

Allu Arjun, who recently delivered a blockbuster with 'Pushpa 2', is currently preparing for his next project, tentatively titled 'AA23'. The film marks his collaboration with Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Lokesh’s previous release, 'Coolie' starring Rajinikanth, received mixed reviews despite strong box office openings.

While 'AA23' has been officially announced, further details about the cast and storyline remain under wraps.
