After the success of Kishkindha Kandam, Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali are back together in Jeethu Joseph’s upcoming thriller Mirage

Following the critical and commercial success of Kishkindha Kandam, Malayalam cinema’s much-loved pair—Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali—return to the screen in Mirage, a psychological thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jeethu Joseph. The first look poster of the film was unveiled on Monday, shortly after a unique digital illusion teaser caught attention online, sparking curiosity and playful speculation among fans.
The teaser, which featured constantly shifting visuals and subtle clues, quickly went viral, helped in part by the cast engaging in a witty exchange in the comment section. When a fan jokingly asked if the thumbnail was “constantly updating”, actor Hakim Shajahan quipped, “Don’t believe everything you see, it’s all a mirage.” This prompted co-star Hanna Reji Koshy to respond with, “Aha, and then?”, followed by Aparna Balamurali’s amused reply: “Oh, looks like someone’s a pundit!” Asif Ali joined in with, “This is how it’s been ever since Mirage wrapped up,” turning the teaser reveal into an entertaining thread that only heightened fan anticipation.
Mirage is produced by Mukesh R Mehta, Jatin Sethi, and C.V. Sarathi under the banners E for Experiments and Nath Studios, in association with 717 Productions and Bed Time Stories. The film marks another major release in Asif Ali’s 2025 lineup, following the box office success of Rekhachithram. It also marks a new collaboration between Asif and director Jeethu Joseph, who previously worked together on the widely discussed Kooman.
Joining the lead duo are Hakim Shajahan, Deepak Parambol, Hanna Reji Koshy, and Sampath Raj in key supporting roles, promising a strong ensemble for what is expected to be a layered and suspenseful film.
Behind the scenes, the film brings together a skilled technical crew: cinematography is by Satheesh Kurup, while the story is penned by Aparna R Tharakad. The screenplay and dialogues are by Srinivas Abrol and Jeethu Joseph. V.S. Vinayak handles editing, with production design by Prashanth Madhav and music composed by Vishnu Shyam. Additional crew includes Sudheesh Ramachandran as chief associate director, Linta Jeethu on costume design, Amal Chandran on make-up, and Tony Magmith leading the VFX work.
The film’s publicity design is by Yellow Tooths, while lyrics are penned by Vinayak Sasikumar and sound design is by Sinoy Joseph. The PRO is Athira Diljith.
With its cryptic teaser, stellar cast, and Jeethu Joseph’s directorial grip on mystery-driven storytelling, Mirage has quickly become one of the most talked-about upcoming Malayalam releases of the year.
