Actor Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli, widely admired for their public conduct and parenting choices, have again drawn attention for their thoughtful approach to raising children.

The couple, who are parents to four-year-old Vamika and 15-month-old Akaay, have remained steadfast in keeping their children out of the limelight.

In a past interview with Vogue, Anushka discussed their shared parenting philosophy and the importance of instilling strong values. “Conditioning is the most important role in how we see the world,” she said, noting her own upbringing in a progressive household as a guiding influence. “Love is the underlying factor in our home, and what’s important to us is that our child be respectful of people. We don’t want to raise brats.”

The couple does not view parenting through conventional gender roles. Anushka said their approach is more about functioning as a cohesive family unit rather than dividing responsibilities strictly as "mum and dad duties." She added, “For us, it's important that our child be raised with a very balanced outlook. It is all about shared duties. I will be the primary caregiver, especially in the first few years, and that's the reality.”

Anushka also spoke about how her self-employed career allows her more flexibility to be present with her children, unlike Kohli, whose cricketing calendar keeps him away frequently. “What becomes important is the time we spend together as a family,” she explained.

On the topic of privacy, the couple have consistently chosen to keep their children away from public and social media exposure. “We’ve thought about it a lot. We definitely do not want to raise a child in the public eye—we don’t plan on engaging our child in social media. I think it’s a decision your child should be able to take,” she stated. “No kid should be made to be more special than the other. It’s hard enough for adults to deal with it.”

Acknowledging the unpredictability of parenthood, Anushka said, “You have to learn as you go; you can’t pressurise yourself, but you have to be prepared because there will be curveballs.”

The Kohli-Sharma family continues to set an example by balancing fame with intentional parenting, choosing to prioritise values, emotional well-being, and privacy for their children over public adoration.
