Anu Aggarwal, the actress who rose to fame with Aashiqui, faced a life-changing accident in 1999 that left her in a coma for 29 days, erasing her memory and altering her appearance. Now, years later, she has transformed her life, embracing spirituality and yoga as a way of healing.

Anu Aggarwal was once a rising star in Bollywood. After debuting in Aashiqui (1990), she became a household name. She later appeared in films like Khal-Naaikaa, The Cloud Door, and Thiruda Thiruda, gaining recognition for her bold choices.

However, in 1999, her life took a devastating turn when she was involved in a severe car accident while returning from a party in Mumbai. The crash left her with multiple fractures, a paralysed body, and no memory of her past. Speaking about the experience in a recent interview with Galatta Tamil, she revealed, “I don’t even remember the accident happening. When I woke up, I didn’t know my name, my family, or my career. It was like being reborn.”

Doctors doubted she would survive, let alone recover fully. “They said it was a miracle,” Anu recalled. “I had to relearn how to walk, talk, and even recognise faces.” Her once-famous looks were also affected, as her face had changed due to the injuries. But instead of dwelling on what she lost, Anu focused on healing.

She spent months bedridden, relying on her family for support. “I became like a child again. I couldn’t even go to the bathroom by myself,” she admitted. Slowly, with extensive therapy and sheer determination, she regained control of her life.

During her recovery, Anu turned to spirituality and yoga, which she believes played a crucial role in her healing. “The accident made me realise that I am more than my body. It pushed me to discover my true self,” she said.

She eventually became a certified yoga teacher and established a yoga centre to help others find inner peace. “Yoga saved me. It gave me a second chance,” she stated. Today, she dedicates her life to teaching and promoting well-being.

Despite once being a Bollywood star, Anu has no desire to return to films. “That was another life,” she said. “I feel blessed for the journey I have been through. If my story can inspire even one person, then it’s all worth it.” Anu Aggarwal’s journey from fame to near-death and self-discovery is a testament to resilience and the power of the human spirit. Her story reminds us that sometimes, losing everything is the path to finding one’s true self.
