Dramatic scenes that started in Hyderabad on Friday afternoon came to a temporary halt by 7 a.m. on Saturday. Telugu actor Allu Arjun, who was arrested by the police from his house in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, had to spend one night in jail. Allu was arrested by the Hyderabad Special Task Police in connection with the death of a young woman during a stampede at the Pushpa-2 movie screening. Following this, the Nampally Magistrate Court remanded the actor for 14 days. However, Allu Arjun approached the Telangana High Court. Pointing out that he has the freedom and rights to live as a citizen despite being an actor, the High Court granted him four weeks of bail.

Allu’s time in jail

But none of this could prevent Allu’s time in jail. The bail order reached the superintendent of Chanchalguda Jail by 11 p.m. However, as jail regulations do not allow prisoners to be released late at night, the superintendent clarified that Allu would have to spend the night inside the jail. The actor was released before 7 a.m. on Saturday morning. Allu first went to the office of the production company Geetha Arts before heading home. There were emotional scenes in front of the house. His wife Sneha Reddy welcomed him with tears, hugging the actor. Allu embraced his children, who rushed to him. All of this was captured by the cameras.

Intense ‘drama’

Following this, the reality and drama of this arrest became a topic of discussion among people. Some argued that Allu was planning to enter politics and that this arrest was part of that drama. Reports of Allu’s speech during the success celebrations of Pushpa-2 in Delhi and his meeting with political strategist Prashant Kishor were also cited by some to support this claim. In his speech, Allu had said phrases like, “This is the new India. This India will neither stop nor bow before anyone.”

"Numbers are temporary. Love is what lasts in the heart forever. Records are meant to be broken. I am happy to be standing here now, but in two or three months, this record will break. It doesn't matter whether it’s in Telugu, Tamil, or Hindi. That’s the sign of growth. India is moving forward, and that is what it means. Let this record break as soon as possible. As an Indian, I am proud to say from the national capital that India will lead the world in the future," Allu had said in his speech in Delhi.

However, Allu Arjun’s team had come forward and denied all these reports.

Family ‘rift’

There are also assessments that the disagreements between the Konidela family and the Allu family led to this arrest.

The late Allu Ramalingaiah, a writer and actor, and the late Konidela Venkat Rao, a writer, hailed from the West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Allu Ramalingaiah's children are Surekha and Allu Aravind. The children of Konidela Venkat Rao are actors Chiranjeevi, Nagendra Babu, and Pawan Kalyan. The link that connects these two families is Surekha, who married Chiranjeevi.

‘Backbone of Telugu cinema’

The Allu family and the Konidela family are the backbone of Telugu cinema.

Allu Arjun and Allu Sirish, sons of Allu Aravind, are actors. Only Allu Venkatesh ventured into business. Similarly, Chiranjeevi and his brothers Nagendra Babu and Pawan Kalyan dominate Telugu cinema.

Pawan Kalyan’s rise in politics

However, the discord between these families began when Pawan Kalyan contested the Assembly elections.

Pawan Kalyan's party, Jana Sena, contested both the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections with the support of the BJP. After winning from the Pithapuram constituency, Pawan Kalyan was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. However, on the same day, Sai Tej, had unfollowed Allu Arjun and his wife Sneha Reddy on social media. Allu Arjun and his family also did not attend the swearing-in ceremony or the party held in Hyderabad as part of the victory celebrations.

'On the wrong side of things'

During the Assembly elections, Allu Arjun participated in the campaign for YSR Congress candidate Shilpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy in Nandyal. Allu Arjun clarified that he joined the campaign as Shilpa is a close friend. However, the Jana Sena party believes that the Allu family has always favored the YSR Congress, which is why Allu participated in the campaign.

In February, Allu’s father-in-law, Kancharla Chandrasekhar Reddy resigned from Telangana BRS and joined Congress.

Even then, fans are questioning how the Congress government under Revanth Reddy supported Allu’s arrest. At the same time, the opposition BRS in Telangana condemned Allu's arrest.

Reports suggest that despite Allu’s father-in-law being a Congress member, the Allu family leans toward the BRS in Telangana, which may have caused dissatisfaction within the Congress.

Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress President Jaganmohan Reddy’s sister, YS Sharmila, is the president of the Congress party in Andhra. This political rivalry might also have made Allu a target in the Congress' eyes.
