More actors have come forward to share their experience in the Malayalam film industry.
Earlier an actress had accused Liju Krishna, director of the movie 'Padavettu', of sexual assault. Liju Krishna was arrested in 2022 following these serious allegations. Recently, after the release of the Hema Committee Report, the actress has spoken out again about her experience.
The survivor revealed that she is still undergoing treatment and remains bedridden. She shared that only a few people have stood by her through this difficult time.
"The incident happened when I was 26. I had just started a job after completing my studies. It is a terrifying memory that still haunts me. My therapy has now reached a new stage. I want to stress that all my doctors and therapists are women," she said.
She added, "A very close person has supported me throughout these years. We have now legalised our relationship."
"I had to marry the person I love most during a traumatic situation. I received this support because of his political beliefs. If it had been someone else, they might have abandoned me. We live in a society where women are often blamed, even when it's not their fault. I consider myself fortunate to have received such support," she added
The actress disclosed that she was hospitalised for months.
"This happened during COVID period. They knew I was being raped. They also knew that if I survived, I would take legal action. So, for two years, they tormented me. I went from weighing 64 kg to just 28 kg. They tortured me in many ways. He promised to marry me, even offered me money. Many people intervened on behalf of Liju Krishna," she stated.
"There were times when I couldn't even walk. I don't need anyone's sympathy. The compassion from someone I consider mine is enough. When the Hema Committee Report was released, I felt compelled to speak out on behalf of all survivors. Survivors are fighting to live. For them, every 24 hours feels like a year. They may not have the courage to share their experiences. Rapists do not fear because these incidents happen in the film industry," she said
Referring to a recent comment made by an actor, she said, "An actor recently asked if we didn't know about these people. Yes, we know who they are now. They compared these incidents to those in other industries. But how is any other sector the same as the film industry? Does anyone else receive the kind of rewards or payments that those in the movie industry do? Crores are spent in this field. The way common people idolise you, the people in film industry has made it happen."
