Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja have reportedly hit a rough patch in their decades-long marriage. According to recent media reports, Sunita Ahuja has officially filed for divorce in the Bandra Family Court, bringing an end to their seemingly strong marital bond. The petition has been filed under Section 13(1)(i), (ia), and (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, which refer to adultery, cruelty and desertion as grounds for divorce.

As per a report by Hauterrfly, the court had issued a summons to Govinda on May 25, but while Sunita has been consistently attending the court proceedings, the actor has allegedly been absent. Since June, efforts have reportedly been underway to reconcile the two, but with limited progress.

Amid the growing buzz surrounding their separation, Sunita Ahuja recently addressed the divorce rumours in an emotional vlog. She visited the Mahalaxmi Temple, a place she has been visiting since childhood, and got candid about her feelings while speaking to a priest.

Fighting back tears, Sunita shared, “When I met Govinda, I prayed to the Goddess that I should get married to him and have a good life. The Goddess fulfilled all my wishes—she even blessed me with two children. But not every truth in life is easy; there are always ups and downs. Still, I have so much faith in the Goddess that whatever I am witnessing today, I know that whoever tries to break my home, Maa Kaali is there.”

She further added, “It is not right to cause pain to a good man and a good woman. I love all three forms of the Goddess. Whatever the situation may be, anyone who tries to break my family, Maa will not forgive them.”

When did rumours of separation start to surface?

Speculation around Govinda and Sunita’s separation first surfaced in February 2025, with reports suggesting that frequent disagreements and differing lifestyles were taking a toll on their marriage. Adding fuel to the fire was Govinda’s alleged growing closeness to a 30-year-old Marathi actress, which reports claimed was a major reason behind the strain in their relationship.

Lawyer claimed reconciliation in progress

After rumours surfaced. the couple’s lawyer and family friend, Lalit Bindal, soon clarified that although the divorce had been filed six months ago, the two were still trying to reconcile. He claimed, Govinda and Sunita are going strong and will always be together.
