Malayalam superstar Mammootty once stood up for his co-actor during the shooting of 2006-movie Pothan Vava, directed by Joshiy.

The incident was recounted by Biju Kuttan during an interview with The Cue Studio, where he shared Mammootty’s supportive behaviour on set. During a song shoot, a choreographer reportedly spoke rudely to Biju Kuttan after misjudging his involvement in the sequence.

"During the song shoot for Pothan Vava, the dance choreographer didn’t recognize me. Mammookka (Mammootty) was performing the lyrics while I was supposed to clap in the background. At one point, I realized I wasn’t part of the frame, so I stood still. The choreographer then scolded me, saying, ‘Why are you standing like a corpse? Do something.’ Mammukka didn’t like that. He called the choreographer aside and asked, ‘Do you know who this is? He is not just anyone; he’s an actor working with me.’ The choreographer’s mood completely changed. After that, he gave instructions cautiously and respectfully. He even started calling me ‘Sir’ and following me around. Mammukka notices everything. He doesn’t allow anyone to be disrespected. That day, I realized how much he cared. He even consoled me afterwards,” Biju Kuttan shared. 

Biju also shared insights about Mammootty’s disciplined approach and keen observation on sets, emphasizing how the superstar ensures that no one is mistreated. 

Through this film, the famous Indian pop and bollywood singer Usha Uthup made her first screen appearance where she played the role of the protagonist’s mother. The film was released on October 21, 2006, coinciding with Diwali. Pothan Vava was credited for an excellent performance and commercial success.
