Kochi: As the initial shock over the mass resignation of all the executive members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), including president Mohanlal, begins to subside, more actors are speaking out against the decision, calling it undemocratic and hasty. Following Shammy Thilakan’s criticism that the mass resignation was unnecessary, actor Anoop Chandran has also expressed his disapproval of the committee’s collective resignation.

“As a person who believes in democratic values, I find this move by the entire executive committee disappointing and strongly disagree with it. This is akin to betraying the trust of the general body that elected this committee and humiliates those who respect the cultural values of Kerala,” Anoop Chandran said.

Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Tuesday, he stated that the move feels like an insult to the people of Kerala. He questioned whether the committee was more concerned about the feelings of those facing allegations, suggesting that only those directly facing allegations should be removed.

“AMMA should have thoroughly reviewed the report in a timely manner and responded promptly. The delay in the organization's reaction was unacceptable. This delay should also be studied,” Anoop said.

“It would have been commendable if the organization had expressed solidarity with the women who suffered trauma due to the misconduct of some individuals. Instead, the committee chose to resign, which goes against the principles of democracy,” Anoop added.
