Exciting news! A `3 Idiots` sequel, `4 Idiots`, is in the works with a new lead actor joining Aamir Khan! Script locked, filming in 2026. Don`t miss this!

The ‘All Is Well’ moment may be returning to the big screen and this time, Rancho, Raju and Farhan might not be alone.
As anticipation builds around the long-rumoured sequel to Aamir Khan’s cult classic 3 Idiots, fresh buzz suggests the franchise could be expanding its core cast. According to industry sources, the sequel is currently being developed under the working title 4 Idiots, with the makers actively scouting a fourth lead, potentially a Bollywood A-lister, to join the iconic trio.
Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Kareena Kapoor Khan are expected to reprise their roles from the 2009 blockbuster, but the identity of the “fourth idiot” remains a closely guarded secret.
“The script is currently being developed under a tentative working title, 4 Idiots. While this title is still subject to change, the makers are looking out for a superstar to expand the iconic franchise beyond its original trio,” a source told Pinkvilla. “The makers are actively searching for a fourth idiot, could be a superstar name.”
Who could be the fourth ‘Idiot’?
While no names have been confirmed, the idea of adding a new central character has sparked intense speculation among fans. Could it be a contemporary superstar who matches Aamir Khan’s screen presence? Or perhaps an actor who represents the next generation, mirroring how 3 Idiots once spoke to youth culture and academic pressure?
Insiders suggest the writing team is ensuring the sequel picks up organically from where the original ended, while introducing new themes that justify expanding the friend group beyond Rancho, Raju and Farhan.
About ‘3 idiots’ movie:
Released in December 2009 and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots became one of Indian cinema’s most influential films. Starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani and Mona Singh, the film combined humour with social commentary on education, ambition and friendship. It went on to earn nearly ₹400 crore worldwide and continues to enjoy cult status.
Aamir Khan’s portrayal of Rancho became a pop-culture phenomenon, inspiring countless students to “chase excellence” rather than success.
The sequel is officially in the works, with the script said to be locked and filming expected to begin in 2026, once again under Rajkumar Hirani’s direction.
