Los Angeles: As the 67th Grammy Awards kicks off, on February 3, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, it has brought immense pride to India with the announcement of six Indian-origin artists receiving nominations.
The prestigious event, known for honoring the best in the music industry, is another proud moment for Indian artists making their mark on the global stage, following comedian Vir Das' role as host at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
Ricky Kej
Ricky Kej, a multiple Grammy winner, has been nominated for the fourth time in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category for his latest album, ‘Break of Dawn.’ Kej's remarkable journey includes winning his first Grammy in 2015 for ‘Winds of Samsara’ and two more awards in 2022 for ‘Divine Tides,’ a collaborative effort with Stewart Copeland of The Police.
Anoushka Shankar
Renowned sitarist Anoushka Shankar, daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar, has secured two nominations this year. Her album ‘Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn’ is competing in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category, while her track ‘A Rock Somewhere’ has earned a nod in the Best Global Music Performance category.
Chandrika Tandon
Chandrika Tandon, a familiar name in the global music scene, has received the award for her album ‘Triveni’ in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category. Tandon, who won her first Grammy in 2010 for ‘Om Namo Narayana: Soul Call,’ has once again impressed with her fusion of traditional and contemporary sounds.
Radhika Vekaria
Radhika Vekaria is also making waves with her album ‘Warriors of Light,’ which is up for a Grammy in the Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album category. The album features a unique blend of vocals in Sanskrit, Hindi, Tamil, and English, showcasing Vekaria’s versatility and cultural richness.
Noshir Mody
Noshir Mody, known for his musical contributions to various projects, has earned his first Grammy nomination for his work on ‘Kashira by Masa Takumi,’ alongside Ron Korb and Dale Edward Chung, in the Best Global Music Performance category.
Varijashree Venugopal
Varijashree Venugopal is making her Grammy debut with a nomination for ‘A Rock Somewhere,’ in collaboration with Anoushka Shankar, in the Best Global Music Performance category.
