Kerala-based contemporary band Chemmeen has released its debut original single titled “DINKAN,” a vibrant musical tribute celebrating one of Malayalam pop culture’s most beloved childhood characters. With this release, the band marks an exciting new chapter in its musical journey while revisiting a nostalgic icon cherished by generations of Malayalees.

Founded in 2012 by frontman Vineeth Mohan, Chemmeen began as a collective of passionate young musicians driven by a shared love for diverse musical styles. Over the years, several talented artists have been part of the ensemble, shaping the band’s dynamic and evolving sound. Today, the band features a powerful lineup consisting of Vineeth Mohan (Vocals), Nidhin Raj (Violin), Jeo Jacob (Drums), Crispin Netto (Lead Guitar), Joji Syrus (Bass Guitar), and Justin Christy (Keys).

Chemmeen’s music blends a variety of genres including Bollywood Fusion, Reggae, and Pop, creating a distinct sound that resonates with diverse audiences. The band has built a reputation for energetic live performances and innovative musical arrangements. Their talent and creativity were widely recognized when they won a reality TV show in 2014.

One of the band’s signature highlights has been their fusion performances with traditional Chenda artists, they are the pioneers in chenda melam fusion act, a unique collaboration that has captivated audiences both in India and abroad. Their popular YouTube fusion video from the movie 3 (Three) has garnered over 40 million views, reflecting the band’s widespread appeal among music lovers.

Their latest release “DINKAN” is a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Malayalam comic book superhero who captured the imagination of countless children. The character Dinkan, an anthropomorphic superhero mouse, first appeared in a malayalam children’s magazine in 1983. Originating from the forest of Pankila, Dinkan gains extraordinary powers following an alien encounter, transforming him into a flying hero with super strength and heightened senses. Through stories filled with adventure, humour and kindness, Dinkan became an inseparable part of many Malayalee childhoods.

Through this song and music video, Chemmeen hopes to reintroduce the iconic character to a new generation while rekindling fond memories for those who grew up reading the comic series. The band describes the project as a heartfelt attempt to honour a character that played a significant role in shaping the imagination of young readers across Kerala.

The track is composed by Vineeth Mohan with lyrics by Vidya Mohan, and performed by the members of Chemmeen Band. The music video has been shot and edited by Krish KM, while Vishnu Anil handled the audio mix and mastering. The song also features a special kids’ voice performed by Jiny Joseph.
