Ashvin Mani, a renowned name in India’s underground music scene and one of the driving forces behind Soupherb Records, expressed his excitement over performing at Kappa CULTR calling it immense gratitude and excitement. The music festival, which wrapped up its final day with a bang, was an opportunity for Soupherb to showcase its vision, with Ashvin alongside Ash Roy delivering unforgettable performances for the Electronic dance music audience.

“I feel lucky to be a part of Kappa CULTR,” Ashvin shared, expressing his enthusiasm for the label showcase. “Ash played last year, and this year, we spoke to the organisers, Mayura and her sister, to give us a full day. So, we have our label showcase, and I am really excited. It’s a great opportunity, " he added.

Ashvin stressed  that their music and brand are not aimed at mass appeal, but instead focus on creating a unique experience for those who truly appreciate the underground sound. “It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay. We are happy with those who are here with us,” he explained, underscoring the authenticity of their artistic vision.

The festival, held in Kochi, Kerala, became the perfect platform for this celebration of niche electronic music, and the energy in the air was palpable. “The audience is as enthusiastic as anywhere else,” Ashvin remarked, reflecting on the reception of Soupherb’s performances. “It’s a niche thing, and we provide the best experience possible for those who enjoy our sound.”

Ashvin recalled some of the most memorable performances of his career, noting a particularly magical moment at a festival in Udaipur. “There was this one festival in Udaipur at the City Palace, where 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' was shot. It was a small festival with about 300-350 people, and I played for 5 hours straight. It was packed, and the energy was electric. Everyone was dancing, and it felt like a magical moment,” he reflected with a smile.

As for the festival stage itself, Ashvin praised the execution of Kappa CULTR’s setup. “The stage was well done, the sound was amazing, "he declared, emphasising that it was indeed one of the hottest music festivals in South India.

Kappa CULTR’s grand finale on January 12 saw Ashvin and Ash Roy collaborate in a spectacular performance, which included a special tribute to the legendary tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain. The tribute featured Ash Roy and Ashvin incorporating Zakir Hussain’s iconic tabla rhythms with their own electronic beats, paying homage to the musical icon in a breathtaking fusion of sound.

As the festival closed, the atmosphere was filled with people grooving, dancing and celebrating the art of music. “Absolutely, this is one of South India’s best music festivals,” Ashvin concluded. “More such events are going to happen, if not this year, then definitely next year.”
