Music director Shaan Rahman said he has asked the owners of the song ‘Freak Penne’ in Omar Lulu's ‘Oru Adar Love’ to correct the video description by giving credit to singer Sathyajith as the song composer.
Following this, Muzik247 corrected the description of the official video on YouTube saying “Composed by: Sathyajith, Produced and Arranged by: Shaan Rahman.”
Satyajith had accused Shaan of releasing the song without giving him due credit.
In a long note posted on Facebook, Shaan Rahman denied the allegations and said that he had never taken credit for songs he did not compose. Shaan said Sathyajith was given credit as singer since it was a rap song and it turned successful since it “relied heavily on its music production… which I completely enjoyed and wholeheartedly did.”
Excerpts from the note he posted on social media:
“When 'Oru Adaar Love' movie came to me, the Director Omar Lulu wanted to introduce a song that he saw on a social media. He wanted to give an opportunity to this new comer. We went ahead with it and met Satyajit at my home in Kakkanad, where he made me listen to the song. I loved it and agreed to produce it (programme, arrange and produce) keeping the original lyrics and recorded it at my studio with Satyajit's voice.
“And for the unversed, Artists of such genres (RAP) are treated as RAPPERS and not composers and are given credit as singers and lyricist. Like how you call EMINEM a rapper and not a composer. I have done and worked with many Rappers like Rzee, Fejo who did "Ennilerinju thudangiya theekkanal" from Jacobinde Swargarajyam and Kotha Title from King of Kotha and their works are duly credited accordingly.
“Freak Penne is a song which relied heavily on its music producion. Else the song wouldn't have worked. Which I completely enjoyed and wholeheartedly did. Its more of a Rap song. With a bit of tune which repeatedly comes here and there. Sathyajith wrote and performed it. Where as Maanikya Malaraaya Poovie was a definite Composition with layers of tunes and notes and we credited the composer.
“Its truly sad to see that when we provide opportunities, people take it for granted. This will only make me think twice before I give any such opportunities in future.
Here is my sincere wishes to Satyajit, for a great career making some amazing songs,” Shaan wrote.
