Malayalam actor Chitra passed away at her residence in Chennai. She was 56. She suffered a heart attack on Saturday morning.
Chitra has acted in many films in South Indian languages and presently she acts in Tamil serials.
The charming actress cannot be forgotten in the song ‘Neelakuyile chollu…maarikiliye chollu’ from the 1991 movie 'Adwaitham'.
Some of her famous films include Kalikkalam (1990), Devasuram (1993) and Pathamudayam (1985).
She has acted in more than 100 films. Chitra acted along with Prem Nazir and Mohanlal in her first film Aattakalasham in 1983. She was nicknamed "Nallennai Chithra" because of the fame she attained with the advertisement of an oil company she had acted.

She was born as second child among three children in Kochi. She studied till X standard and couldn't continue studies as she became busy in movies.
She is married to Vijayaraghavan in 1990. They have a daughter Mahalakshmi. After marriage she retired from films and resides in Chennai.
