The Malayalam superstar hints at a possible on-screen turn as Moothon, but says negotiations won’t be easy.

Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty has sparked fresh curiosity among fans after addressing whether he might appear on screen as Moothon in the expanding Lokah franchise.
While the actor didn’t confirm anything, his response suggests the door is very much open, albeit with conditions.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Mammootty said with characteristic wit, “If they manage to convince me to play Moothon in the Lokah series, I will also have to convince them to agree to my fees!”
The remark, equal parts candid and playful, has already set off speculation about a potential casting coup.
The character of Moothon, an enigmatic elder who leads a group of superpowered beings, was introduced in ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ (2025).
Interestingly, Mammootty only lent his voice to the role in the first instalment, which starred Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen.
Director Dominic Arun had earlier revealed that even securing Mammootty’s voice for Moothon required considerable persuasion.
Convincing him to physically portray the character, he admitted, would be an even bigger challenge—something the actor himself now seems to echo.
Beyond the franchise chatter, Mammootty also shared an optimistic outlook on the evolution of Malayalam cinema.
“Now that the language barrier is gone, I hope Malayalam cinema becomes international and reaches as many people as possible,” he said, reflecting the industry’s growing global footprint.
On the work front, the veteran actor is gearing up for the release of ‘Patriot’, a spy action drama directed by Mahesh Narayanan.
The film, which also features Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, and others, revolves around a man targeted after exposing a surveillance system that threatens citizens’ privacy.
Originally slated for an April release, ‘Patriot’ will now hit theatres on May 1, 2026, setting up a major box office moment with two of Malayalam cinema’s biggest stars sharing screen space.
For now, whether Mammootty will step into Moothon’s shoes remains uncertain, but if it happens, it could be one of the franchise’s biggest draws yet.
