Veteran actress Madhoo has shared a fascinating personal anecdote, revealing that her role in the 1996 film 'Diljale' unexpectedly helped her find her life partner.

Speaking exclusively to IANS, the actress said it was her performance in the film that caught the attention of her future husband, businessman Anand Shah. Recalling the incident, Madhoo said Shah watched 'Diljale' in Singapore and was instantly impressed by her on-screen presence.

‘That’s the role that won me my husband. My husband saw this film in Singapore and thought, ‘Who is this girl? She is amazing.’ The next thing I knew, I was married to this man,’ she said.

Madhoo married Anand Shah on February 19, 1999, and the couple has two daughters, Amaya and Keia. Anand Shah is also related to businessman Jay Mehta, the husband of actress Juhi Chawla.

Directed by Harry Baweja, 'Diljale' starred Ajay Devgn, Madhoo and Sonali Bendre in lead roles, with Parmeet Sethi, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Amrish Puri playing pivotal characters. Madhoo portrayed Shabnam, a character linked to a terrorist group.

The actress also reflected on changing social attitudes while discussing her Bollywood debut ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ (1991), opposite Ajay Devgn. She noted that scenes once viewed as romantic may now be seen very differently.

According to Madhoo, the film featured sequences involving persistent pursuit and teasing, which were widely accepted as romance at the time.

However, she acknowledged that such behaviour would likely be considered inappropriate and unacceptable in today’s social climate.
