Hulu has pulled the plug on its critically acclaimed sitcom, ‘'Mid-Century Modern'’ after just one season, despite strong reviews and a devoted fan base.

The series, which premiered in March with a 10-episode run, was created by Will & Grace masterminds David Kohan and Max Mutchnick.

It followed three gay friends navigating life, love, and aging together in Palm Springs—one of them still living with his mother. The show stood out not only for its sharp writing but also for its heartfelt depiction of friendship and chosen family in later life.

Starring Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer, the sitcom became an unexpected gem in Hulu’s lineup, drawing praise for its balance of humor and poignancy.

It also marked the final television appearance of legendary actress Linda Lavin, who played Lane’s character’s mother. Lavin passed away in December 2024 at the age of 87, lending the show an added layer of poignancy.

Though short-lived, 'Mid-Century Modern' did not go unrecognised. It earned four Emmy nominations, including nods for James Burrows’ direction, as well as outstanding production design, sound mixing, and editing.

The series was produced by Disney’s 20th Television, with executive producers including Burrows, Ryan Murphy, Lane, and Bomer.

While the cancellation disappointed fans, many see the show’s single season as a small but meaningful milestone in LGBTQ+ storytelling on television—one that left its mark even in a brief run.
