The actor emphasized that Aegon will emerge as a "different character," profoundly altered by the severe burns he sustained and exhibiting a colder, more driven demeanour

Fans of HBO's hit prequel series House of the Dragon can expect to see a dramatically different Aegon II Targaryen in the upcoming third season. Actor Tom Glynn-Carney, who portrays the controversial king, has hinted at a profound evolution for his character, both physically and mentally, as the Dance of the Dragons continues to unfold.
Glynn-Carney described Aegon as a dynamic and complex figure in Season 2, despite facing immense challenges including the tragic murder of his son and a harrowing dragon attack. He characterized the young king as impulsive, volatile, vulnerable, curious, and even brave, despite admitting the character could also be "stupid."
Looking ahead to Season 3, Glynn-Carney revealed that Aegon's arc will largely adhere to George R.R. Martin's source material, Fire & Blood, confirming his significant role in the unfolding narrative. The actor emphasized that Aegon will emerge as a "different character," profoundly altered by the severe burns he sustained and exhibiting a colder, more driven demeanour.
This transformation is described as a "big journey of self-discovery" for Aegon, as he grapples with understanding himself and taking on new responsibilities in the escalating civil war. The shift promises to add new layers to the contentious monarch's portrayal.
House of the Dragon Season 3 is currently in production, with an anticipated release in the latter half of 2026.
