The first trailer for "Project Hail Mary," a thrilling comedy sci-fi adventure starring Ryan Gosling, has been released, showcasing an "insanely ambitious" story from the mind of acclaimed author Andy Weir. This film is based on Weir's Hugo-nominated novel of the same name, who is also the beloved author of "The Martian."

In "Project Hail Mary," Ryan Gosling portrays Ryland Grace, a seemingly ordinary middle school science teacher with a background in molecular biology. He finds himself in an extraordinary and critical situation: humanity's last hope aboard a spacecraft, awakened from a coma with no recollection of his mission. The dire circumstances stem from the inexplicable dying of the sun and countless other stars, with only one distant star remaining unaffected.

Recruited by the formidable European Space Agency administrator Eva Stratt (played by Sandra Hüller), Grace is tasked with a perilous 11.9-light-year journey to this surviving star. His unique scientific expertise makes him the sole individual capable of unravelling the cosmic mystery that threatens all life.

The trailer, first unveiled at a CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, offers glimpses into Grace's harrowing voyage, from the initial panic of his awakening to his awe-inspiring first spacewalk and an intriguing encounter with an alien. Gosling, who also serves as a producer on the film, has described the story as "massive in scope," highlighting its grand scale and intricate plot.

The film is directed by the dynamic duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for their work on "Jump Street" and "The LEGO Movie." The screenplay was penned by Drew Goddard, who also adapted Andy Weir's "The Martian" for the big screen, ensuring a faithful yet cinematic translation of Weir's latest acclaimed work.

"Project Hail Mary" also features a talented supporting cast, including Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub.

This epic interstellar journey will reach the theatres on March 20, 2026.
