Actor Nana Patekar died of a cardiac arrest on October 8 at the age of 75. Actor Tanushree Dutta, who had accused Nana of sexual harassment during the Indian #MeToo movement, seemingly reacted to the news of his death through a series of Instagram Stories.

Dutta did not mention Nana Patekar by name in her comments. However, while speaking about her plans for the day, she referred to the news and said she expected the media to focus on 'him'.

'I have heard the news. Today is my work day. I am going to Lucknow for an event, focus on that,' Dutta said. She added that she had been planning to shoot and post several videos as part of a major content project.

'What an odd day for this to happen,' she said, before adding that she expected the media to shift its attention to the news.

'But now I know media is going to concentrate only on him. Evil dead,' Dutta said.

The actor then appeared to hold back from giving a detailed response, saying she would speak when she knew how she wanted to react.

'I will react when I know how to react and what to say,' she said. Dutta then offered her condolences, adding, 'Definitely, condolences to the family.'

While Dutta did not identify the person she was referring to in the video, her remarks came in the wake of reports of Patekar’s death.

Her reference to 'him', along with her condolences to the family, was subsequently interpreted as being about the veteran actor.

Tanushree Dutta and Nana Patekar’s #MeToo controversy

Dutta had accused Patekar of sexual harassment in 2018, reigniting India’s #MeToo movement.

Patekar denied the allegations. The controversy had triggered widespread discussion in the Hindi film industry and led to renewed scrutiny of workplace conduct and sexual harassment.

Dutta’s latest comments do not revisit those allegations. Instead, she indicated that she would offer a fuller reaction once she had decided what she wanted to say.
