It has been almost four years since ‘Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva’ introduced audiences to Ayan Mukerji's Astraverse. Since then, fans have been waiting to find out what comes next for Shiva, Dev and the larger world of astras. Now, fresh reports have brought the sequel back into the spotlight, with some interesting casting details.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, Ranbir Kapoor is expected to begin work on ‘Brahmastra Part 2’ after wrapping up ‘Ramayana Part 2’. The report claims filming could begin in 2027, with Ranbir set to take on the unusual challenge of playing both Shiva and Dev.
The sequel is expected to dig deeper into the story of Dev, Shiva's father, while continuing the journey of the character Ranbir played in the first film.

A source cited by Pinkvilla said Ranbir is excited about returning to the franchise and will reportedly portray both characters in the sequel. The report also suggests that the actor could begin shooting after completing ‘Ramayana Part 2,’ with the schedule expected to start around early 2027.

This would give Ranbir a considerably more demanding role in the Astraverse, as the sequel is expected to move between the stories of Shiva and Dev.

Is Deepika Padukone joining Brahmastra 2?

According to the report, Ayan Mukerji and his team are in discussions with Deepika for the role of Amruta, the mother of Shiva and Dev's partner. The filmmaker is reportedly looking for an actor who can bring considerable weight to the character.

However, Deepika's casting in the sequel has not been officially announced. The report says discussions are ongoing and that a final confirmation will depend on the film's schedule and other commitments.

Deepika's connection to Amruta is not entirely new, though. Her brief appearance as Shiva's mother in ‘Brahmastra: Part One’ had already triggered speculation about her role in the sequel. The OTT version later made her appearance much clearer, showing her holding baby Shiva.

What happened in the first Brahmastra?

Released on September 9, 2022, ‘Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva’ introduced Ranbir as Shiva, a young man who discovers his connection to the powerful Agnyastra.

Alia Bhatt played Isha, while Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy were also part of the main cast. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone appeared in cameos.

The film ended with a major tease for the next chapter, revealing Dev as the central figure for ‘Brahmastra Part 2’. Ayan later described the second film as being more dramatic and focused on the clash between Dev and Shiva, while also exploring Dev and Amruta's past.

In 2023, Ayan shared early concept artwork for ‘Brahmastra 2’ and ‘Brahmastra 3’, saying he had been working on the story and vision for both films. The artwork showed Dev, Amruta and Shiva, hinting at the larger conflict that would drive the next instalments.

At the time, Ayan had also said that the two sequels would be bigger and more ambitious than the first film. He had initially announced Brahmastra Part 2 - Dev for December 2026 and the third film for 2027, but those plans have since changed.

For now, there is no confirmed release date for ‘Brahmastra 2’.
