A native of Alappuzha, Anitha Thampi’s literary works are noted for post-modernism. Her first poetry collection Muttamatikkumbol was published in 2004. The book was chosen as “the best poetry book of the year” by Mathrubhumi daily. Azhakillathavayellam (2010) and Alappuzha Vellam are her other works. Her works have been translated into English, French, German, Swedish as well as various Indian languages. Anitha’s contribution to literature as a translator is also notable. She has translated the works of Australian poet Les Murray and Palestinian writer and poet Mourid Barghouti.
