C. V. Balakrishnan is a short story writer, novelist and screenplay writer. He was born in Payyannur of Kannur. This is the golden jubilee year of his literary career. He started his career as a teacher at the age of 18. He reached Kolkata in 1979, where he started writing the novel ‘Ayussinte Pusthakam’, which is one of the noted works in Malayalam literature.
His major works include Ayussinte Pusthakam, Athmavinu Sariyennu Thonnunna Karyangal, Kannadikkadal, Kamamohitham, Ozhiyabadhakal, Librarian, Etho Rajavinte Prajakal, Ottakkoru Penkutty, Jwalakalapam, Bhoomiyepatti Adhikam Parayenda, Kulirum Mattu Kathakalum, Snehavirunnu, Malakhamar Chiraku Veesumbol, Pranayakalam, Bhavabhayam, Manjuprathima and Mechilpurangal.
His autobiography is titled ‘Paralmeen Neenthunna Padam’. He has penned story, screen play and conversation for the movies Mattoral, Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal, and Orma Mathram. He was honored by Padmaprabha Award, Muttathu Varkey Award and Kerala Sahithya Academy Award twice – the first for the novel ‘Athmavinu Sariyennu Thonnunna Karyangal’ and the second for autobiography ‘Paralmeen Neenthunna Padam’.
