Munnar: The KSRTC double-decker tourist bus operating in Munnar has turned into a major success story, collecting more than ₹1 crore in revenue within just nine months.
The Royal View Double-Decker service, launched exclusively for tourists, has entered the ‘crore club’ with earnings of ₹1,00,07,400 generated from a single bus.
The service was inaugurated on February 9, 2025, by Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar, and has quickly gained popularity among visitors seeking a scenic travel experience.
Introduced to boost tourism in Munnar and generate additional income for KSRTC, the bus offers breathtaking views while travelling through lush tea plantations and winding hill roads.
The experience has become a hit among tourists, with heavy demand for seats, especially during peak season.
Route & Schedule
The service starts from Munnar Depot and travels along the Kochi–Dhanushkodi National Highway, covering destinations such as Devikulam, Gap Road, and Anayirankal before returning to the depot. Trips run daily at 9:00 AM, 12:30 PM, and 4:00 PM.
The bus has 50 seats, 11 on the lower deck and 39 on the upper deck, and is specially designed with panoramic views tailored for Munnar’s unique landscape.
Tickets can be booked online or onboard, and KSRTC continues to operate several other sightseeing services for tourists visiting Munnar.
