At Manish Malhotra’s annual bash this year, Nita Ambani arrived in a fuchsia-pink satin saree by the designer, finished with delicate gold lacework and multicoloured Swarovski embellishments.

The colour: Fuchsia, turned all the way up

Fuchsia is a confident choice. It is neither the safe red nor the expected gold of Diwali, and in satin it behaves differently from a heavy silk. The fabric catches lamplight and moves like liquid, so the saree reads as luminous instead of weighty. The drape is fluid, the colour saturated, and the effect immediate.

Khaleej Times, in its Diwali 2026 style report, notes that this year’s rule is a single hero piece. Mrs Ambani’s saree fits that brief. There is one colour, one fabric and one story, with everything else in service of it.

The detail: Gold lacework and crystal confetti

Up close, the saree is a lesson in restraint-meets-excess. The gold lacework runs along the borders and frames the pink like a gilded picture edge.

Against that sits the multicoloured Swarovski work, which scatters across the six yards like confetti rather than a uniform sheen. The mix of colours keeps the look playful and modern, while the gold holds it firmly in tradition.

The blouse: The plot twist is at the back

The blouse is where the look shifts from beautiful to conversation-starting. Its back is as intricately jewelled as the front, with a constellation of coloured crystals. It is a very Manish Malhotra idea that a garment should be admired from every angle, including as the wearer walks away.

This is also a pattern in the pair’s collaborations. In September 2025, the designer revealed that she wore a jade green lamé saree with a Chantilly lace blouse adorned with Swarovski. Crystal-laden blouses have become a quiet signature of their partnership.

The bag: A Pichwai painting you can carry

The accessory is the most unexpected piece of the ensemble. Her handcrafted Pichwai-inspired handbag, from her personal collection, features handmade enamelled lotus motifs, diamond embellishment, and an interior lined with pearls and zari. It brings together textile tradition, fine art and high jewellery in one object.

Pichwai, the devotional painting tradition associated with Nathdwara, is rarely seen as a clutch, which makes the bag a lesson in how heritage art can be worn. The gold and crystal accents of the saree echo the bag’s detailing, so the whole look reads as one composed picture.

The saree celebrates craft without being stiff about it. In a season of loud glamour, this look stood out by being cohesive.
