Rockstar Games has officially postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), setting the new launch date as 26 May 2026. The announcement was made on the company’s social media handles, where the studio expressed both appreciation for the community's continued enthusiasm and regret over the delay.

In a statement, Rockstar said, “Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game”.

Online fan reactions reflect both humour and frustration

While some industry observers had anticipated a delay given the ambitious scale of the project, the confirmation still ignited a flurry of reactions on X, formerly known as Twitter.

A fan account called GTA 6 Countdown expressed frustration under Rockstar's post, writing, “If you are gonna delay it, at least give us some screenshots. This marketing strategy may be working for you, but it is painful for the fans.”

Domino’s Pizza UK joined the conversation with a cheeky remark: “call us if you need help delivering”.

One user responded sharply with, “I speak for everyone when I say, keep the game—we don’t want it anymore”.

An AI-generated image of an elderly man was posted by another user with the caption: “Me when Rockstar actually releases GTA VI”.

Despite the disappointment, many users expressed understanding. One wrote, “Hey we waited 12 years, we can wait a few more months. Most important thing is that the game is good at this point”.

Another shared, “more time in the oven is always better than releasing underbaked!! appreciate the heads up - excited for launch next year!!!! <3”.

While opinions were divided, many gamers remained hopeful that the extended timeline would result in a refined and innovative addition to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Rockstar also hinted at sharing more information “soon”, raising anticipation for potential new gameplay reveals or development updates in the months leading up to launch.

GTA 6 pricing expected to be higher than past titles

Alongside growing buzz around the game’s release, reports have emerged suggesting that GTA 6 may carry a steeper price than previous entries. According to a report by Digit, the standard edition could be priced at around ₹5,999, with special editions possibly reaching up to ₹7,299.
