Kannur: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued hygiene certificates for 503 restaurants and bakeries in Kerala. Star rating has been accorded to those eateries which ensure quality of food and cleanliness.
In the first phase, the food department submitted a list of 4050 establishments to FSSAI. The agency entrusted by FSSAI analysed over 40 features of these restaurants to grant the star ratings.
The list of restaurants will be available through a mobile application. Even if any restaurants received low ratings, it could improve efficiency and reapply for the evaluation procedures. The ratings have to be renewed after two years.
Malappuram district emerged first in the list by obtaining rating for 66 eateries, while only 5 restaurants in Thiruvananthapuram secured the star rating of FSSAI.
