Kalpetta: Noted short story writer and novelist Subhash Chandran was presented the Padmaprabha Literary Award, instituted by the Padmaprabha Memorial Trust, by writer Paul Zacharia on Friday. The award consists of Rs 75,000 cash prize, a 'gem' (Padmaragam (Ruby)) studded plaque and a citation.

Speaking at the event, Zacharia termed Subhash Chandran’s works unmatchable and said that the latter’s generation has liberated Malayalam literature from a period of decline in passion. 

Receiving the award, Subhash Chandran expressed happiness and said, “What sustains a writer is the firm conviction of creative power.” He went on to deliver a heartfelt speech about his childhood memories. 
 
The award ceremony was attended by Mathrubhumi Chairman and Managing Editor PV Chandran, Mathrubhumi Managing Director and Padmaprabha Memorial Trust Chairman MV Shreyams Kumar, orator Sunil P Ilayidom, poet Vijayalakshmi, Mathrubhumi deputy editor PP Sasindran among others.
