New Delhi: Noted academician, translator and critic Prof M Thomas Mathew has bagged the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in the Malayalam category for his work titled 'Aashante Seethayanam'.

Meanwhile, writer C Radhakrishnan was honoured with distinguished membership of the Akademi.

'Danthagopurathilekk Veendum', 'Ente Vaalmeekamevide', 'Sahithyadarshanam', 'Marar Laavnyanubhavathinte Yukthishilpam', 'Marubhoomiyil Vilichu Parayunnavante Shabdham', 'R.U.R' (translation) are the other major literary works of Prof Mathew. He was also involved in the KCBC Bible Commission's translation works.

C Radhakrishnan, the author of novels such as 'Munpe Parakkunna Pakshikal' and 'Spandamapinikale Nandi', is the first Malayali to receive the honour after MT Vasudevan Nair. He will be a distinguished member of the Akademi for the next five years. He has won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi and Kerala Sahithya Akademi awards.

The award for best Malayalam translation was given to Chathanath Achuthanunni. His award-winning work titled ‘Vamanacharyante Kavyalankara Sutra Vrithi’ was translated from Sanskrit.

The Assamese translation of Narayan’s Malayalam novel ‘Kocharethi’ was also honored.

KP Ramanunni, Vijayalakshmi and Mahadevan Thampi are nominated to the new general council of the Akademi from Kerala.
