Kozhikode: Malayalam novelist Sethu has been honoured with the Mathrubhumi Literary Award, 2022.
The prestigious award, which comes with a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, a citation and a sculpture, was judged by a panel of experts consisting of renowned novelist M Mukundan, critic PK Rajasekaran, and novelist R Rajasree.

The judging committee commended Sethu's distinct writing style, which delves into human life problems and expresses different aspects of life. Despite the distractions of everyday life and work, Sethu remained true to his solitary world of writing, they said.
Born in Chendamangalam in the Ernakulam district, Sethu has authored 38 works in the novel and short story genres. He has previously won several prestigious awards such as the Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Odakkuzhal Award, Muttathu Varkey Award, Malayattoor Award, Vishwadeepam Award, and Padmarajan Award. His works have been translated into many languages, including English, German and Turkish, with some adapted into films (‘Pandavapuram’).
Sethu's most notable work, ‘Pandavapuram’, has been translated into eight languages. In addition, ‘Adayalangal’ has been translated into five languages and ‘Aramathe Penkutty’ into three languages. Sethu served as chairman of South Indian Bank and the National Book Trust.
