Beypore (Kozhikode): Beypore’s own Sultan, late Malayalam author Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s commemoration event will take place today, on July 5, at Vylalil House in Beypore, Kozhikode. Minister PA Mohammed Riyas will inaugurate the event which marks the anniversary of the writer's passing. Ravi DC will preside over the ceremony which is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am.

Renowned world traveller and explorer Santhosh George Kulangara will release the special 80th birthday edition of Basheer's acclaimed work 'Balyakalasakhi' during the event.

Basheer's son Anees Basheer, as well as his grandsons Wasim Muhammad Basheer and Naseem Muhammad Basheer will speak at the event. A gathering of differently-abled children is also scheduled to take place at 3 pm.
