Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam novelist and short story writer, P Valsala has won the Ezhuthachan Award for the year 2021. Ezhuthachan Puraskaram is the highest literary honour given by the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. The award includes Rs 5 lakhs and a citation.
P Valsala served as a teacher and was a member of the Sahithya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society. Her first novel is 'Nellu'. This book was later adapted into a movie by the same name and was directed by Ramu Kariat. The movie won the Kumkumam Award. She has also several other awards including Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Muttathu Varkey Award, Padmaprabha Literary Award, C V Kunjiraman Memorial Literature Award and Katha Award.
Her most notable works include Pempi, Gauthaman, Marachottile Veyilcheelukal, Malayalathinte Suvarna Kadhakal, Verittoru America, Ashokanum Ayalum, Valsalayude Sthreekal, Vilapam, Nizhalirangunna Vazhikal and Pokkuveyil Ponveyil.
