Kochi: The demand for coffee beans in the international market has risen during recent weeks due to the steep decline in production globally. Experts predict that demand for coffee will increase in the coming months.

Despite a decline in overall production due to climate changes, India, Asia's third-largest producer and exporter, intends to fill the void left in the worldwide market.

In addition to instant coffee, the country exports both Robusta and Arabica varieties. Of these, Arabica coffee has the most demand in the global market. Robusta coffee has climbed in price from Rs 130 to Rs 240 per kg, while Arabica coffee now costs around Rs 400 per kg.

The major export destinations for Indian coffee are Italy, Belgium, Germany, and Russia. Meanwhile, George Daniel, deputy director of the Coffee Board of India's research wing, stated that coffee is increasingly being used in the cosmetics industry. He went on to say that 80 per cent of the coffee produced in the country is exported.
