Thiruvananthapuram: General education minister V Sivankutty informed that summer vacation following the academic year 2023-24 would start only from April 6, 2024, onwards. Normally state schools in Kerala close down on March 31 for the two-month vacation.
Speaking at the state-level inauguration of the Pravesanolsavam at a school in Thiruvananthapuram, Sivankutty said that the decision to change the schedule is to ensure that schools receive 210 working days in the current academic year.

As many as 38.33 lakh (38,33,399) students attended school on the reopening day on Thursday.
The Plus 1 classes would commence from July 1, 2023 onwards. More than 4 lakh students will join higher secondary classes this year.
The minister also informed that an LP school is allotted in Edamalakudy, a remote tribal village in Idukki.
Sivankutty also pointed out that the government had implemented 45,000 technical-friendly classrooms, computer labs in all primary and upper primary schools, and academic master plans in all institutions. At the same time, the government would also convene a department-level committee this week to consider issues related to teachers' promotions. Guest teachers would be appointed in case of vacancies, Sivankutty added.
