IIT Bombay removes dean from post, apologises for remarks over student's death

Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) on Monday said it has removed Suryanarayana Doolla, Dean of Administrative Affairs, from his post, amid protests by students and Youth Congress workers over the death by suicide of a 22-year-old student.

Doolla has been named in the FIR in the case, which alleges abetment to suicide on grounds of caste discrimination. He has been booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and on abetment to suicide charge.

Mamata faction unveils new logo, begins push to familiarise voters with 'football player' symbol

Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee-led faction of the TMC on Monday unveiled a new logo featuring its interim election symbol -- a football player -- and asked its leaders and elected representatives to publicise it, as the party races to build a new electoral identity after losing, for now, its familiar name and flowers-and-grass symbol.

The logo places the football player at its centre, surrounded by the words 'Mamata All India Trinamool Congress' in white against a blue background. Saffron, white and green have also been incorporated into the design.

Mimicry at Rahul Gandhi's event: Union minister Meghwal, Goa CM call it insult to culture, parents

Panaji: Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday criticised Rahul Gandhi over a mimicry act at the Congress MP's recent event in Indore, alleging that remarks linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's late mother amounted to an insult to Indian culture.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also hit out at Gandhi over the issue, saying political opposition should not descend into personal attacks on parents or elders.
