The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially designated August 30, 2026, as the examination date for the NEET PG 2026, a pivotal announcement that sets the timeline for tens of thousands of medical postgraduate aspirants across India.
The board also confirmed that the NEET MDS 2026 for dental graduates will take place earlier in the year, on May 2, 2026. Accompanying the schedule is a critical update to the mandatory internship completion deadlines, which serve as the primary eligibility threshold for the upcoming admission cycle.
Eligibility and Internship Deadlines
Medical officials have established a strict cut-off for the completion of compulsory rotatory internships. For NEET PG 2026, candidates must finalise their service by September 30, 2026.
For NEET MDS 2026, the internship completion deadline is set for May 31, 2026. Failure to meet these specific dates will result in immediate disqualification from the 2026 counselling sessions, regardless of examination performance.

Examination Structure and Protocol
The 2026 cycle will maintain the established Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. The three-and-a-half-hour examination consists of 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
NBEMS continues to utilise a weighted marking scheme:
- Correct Response: +4 marks
- Incorrect Response: -1 mark (Negative marking)
- Unattempted: 0 marks
Next Steps for Aspirants
While the tentative dates have been published, the comprehensive Information Bulletin, containing the official registration link and seat matrix, is expected to be released on the board's official website, natboard.edu.in, in early February.
Medical experts advise students to begin the documentation process early, as the application window is anticipated to open shortly after the bulletin's release. Results are expected to follow within 30 days of the examination, triggering the centralised counselling process managed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
