Houston: Rice University witnessed a spectacular celebration of Indian culture and tradition with the grand Deepotsav 2023 event, organized by the Indian Students at Rice (ISAR). The event, held on November 19, brought together a vibrant mix of students, their families, alumni, and invited guests, totalling an impressive turnout of over 700 attendees.

The event was inaugurated by the Consul General of India in Houston, Shri Manjunath, who lit the ceremonial lamp, marking the beginning of the festivities. In his opening remarks, the President of Rice University, Mr. Reginald DesRoches, emphasized the importance of cultural diversity and inclusivity on campus.

Also gracing the event with their presence were Shri Robin Elackatt, Mayor of Missouri City, Texas, and Shri Ramesh Ramamoorthy, the Vice President of Rice University. Shri Seiichi Matsuda, the Dean of Graduate Studies, joined in extending warm wishes to the audience, highlighting the university's commitment to fostering a global community.

The President of ISAR, Mr. Emil Binny, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude towards everyone who contributed to making Deepotsav 2023 a resounding success. The event showcased an array of cultural performances by students, demonstrating the richness of Indian culture. The evening concluded with a lively DJ night, leaving attendees with lasting memories of joy and celebration.

Deepotsav 2023 stands out as one of the biggest Diwali celebrations in Houston, reflecting the strong Indian community at Rice University, which is home to hundreds of Indian students across various programs. Rice University, one of the top 20 universities in the United States, continues to strengthen its international presence with centres across the globe. Recent collaborations, including MoUs for research with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and a centre at IIT Kanpur, underscore Rice's commitment to fostering global research and educational partnerships.

Deepotsav 2023 not only celebrated the festival of lights but also reinforced the spirit of unity and cultural exchange, marking a significant highlight in the university's calendar.
