All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur, has invited online applications from Indian citizens for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma Course in Genetic Counselling beginning in January 2026.

Genetic counsellors are health professionals with specialized graduate degrees and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. They work as members of a health care team, providing information and support to families who have members with birth defects or genetic disorders and to families who may be at risk for a variety of inherited conditions.

The overall objective of the program will be to prepare students with the appropriate knowledge and experiences to function as genetic counsellors in a wide range of settings and roles. The program strives to train students who can be an interface between patients, clinicians, and molecular and human geneticists. Students gain insightful and multifaceted skills that will enable them to be effective genetic counsellors, aware of the many new technical advances and often-difficult ethical, legal and social issues that have surfaced in light of the Human Genome Project. Graduates of the Program will be prepared to work in a variety of settings including both adult and pediatric genetics clinics, specialty clinics such as cancer genetics and metabolic clinics, and prenatal diagnosis clinics, as well as in areas of research or molecular genetics laboratories relevant to genetic counseling and human genetics.

The curriculum of the Program of one year (2 semesters) duration includes Principles & Practices of Genetic Counseling; Advanced Medical Genetics: Molecular, Metabolic & Cytogenetics; Professional Counseling Skills; Direct Practice Foundation: Methods & Skills; Human Genetics; Clinical Genetics; Ethical & Professional Issues in Genetic Counseling; Practical and Project.

There are 10 seats for the Programme (UR-4, OBC-3, SC-1, ST-1, EWS-1).

Eligibility: Applicant should hold a bachelor's degree in medicine from a recognized medical institute or a B.Tech in biotechnology/bioinformatics/bioengineering or an MSc in life sciences. The applicant should pass the qualifying examination by 31st December, 2025, and the result should be declared by this date.

There is no upper age limit for admission.

Application can be submitted online at the above link latest by 17:00 hrs on 22nd January, 2026 (Thursday). Applicants need not send a hard copy of the online application or any document thereof to the institute.

Selection: Eligible applicants will be notified to appear in a written examination followed by an interview. Shortlisting of candidates will be done in a ratio of 1:6 per vacancy. The date of the written examination and Interview will be intimated in due course at www.aiimsjodhpur.edu.in
