A JEE Mains aspirant in Durg was caught attempting to cheat by hiding a mobile phone inside his slipper, triggering police action under the Public Examination Act.

A case of alleged cheating attempt during the JEE Mains examination has surfaced from Chhattisgarh’s Durg district, where a candidate was caught with a concealed mobile phone at an exam centre in Bhilai.
The incident took place on April 2 at Parthivi Engineering College in Bhilai-3, where the National Testing Agency (NTA) was conducting the entrance examination.
According to officials, the accused student, identified as Aditya Kumar (20), had allegedly hidden a mobile phone inside his slipper to use unfair means during the exam.
The matter came to light during the first shift of the examination. Aditya had stepped out for a bio-break and returned around 11:28 am.
Upon re-entry, a security guard conducted routine frisking using a metal detector. The device indicated suspicion, prompting a more thorough check.
During inspection, the guard examined the student’s slippers and discovered a mobile phone concealed inside. Investigators said the slipper had been cut and modified to hide the device, suggesting premeditated intent.
The guard immediately alerted venue commanding officer Ajit Verma, following which a complaint was lodged at Purani Bhilai police station. Police registered a case under Section 9 of the Chhattisgarh Public Examination Act, 2008, and arrested the accused.
Kumar is a resident of Mastan Para in Sukma district. The seized item includes the mobile phone used in the alleged attempt.
Durg Police have issued a public appeal urging candidates to refrain from using unfair means in examinations, warning that strict legal action will be taken against violators.
