Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty said that applicants shortlisted in the Public Service Commission (PSC) list will receive priority during the appointment of daily wage teachers in government schools across the state. However, this decision will not apply to teachers in aided schools. The minister also assured that there will be enough teachers in schools for the upcoming academic year.
The government intervention comes in the wake of a delay in staff fixation for the academic year 2022-23. There are several teachers across the districts who are waiting for their appointment letters after getting shortlisted in the PSC list. However their future looks uncertain as the revenue department has not approved the staff fixation report so far.
In the current scenario, an order has been issued to government schools for appointing temporary teachers, non-teaching staff (including full time menial staff) for daily wages.
Additional teachers across categories, who are currently working in different schools as per the existing staff fixation order, shouldn’t be appointed on daily wage. They will have to be transferred to fill in the existing vacancies instead.
Applicants who have been shortlisted in the PSC shall be given priority. Teachers who have cleared K-TET and those with concessions shall be appointed. Strict action will be initiated against school principals who allow temporary staff to continue in the permanent vacancies in their schools without informing the concerned authorities.
