Another X outage: Platform and Grok suffer major global outage, thousands of users affected

X, formerly known as Twitter, and its integrated AI chatbot Grok were hit by a significant technical outage on Friday, with users reporting that both the website and mobile applications failed to load.

Many users were met with blank screens, while others encountered Cloudflare error pages, although early indications suggest the issue originated from X’s own systems rather than Cloudflare infrastructure problems.

According to outage tracking platform Down Detector, reports of issues surged sharply around 8:45PM IST (10 am Eastern Time), signalling a large-scale disruption. The outage appeared to affect users globally, cutting across regions and platforms, including desktop browsers and mobile apps.

Unlike some previous disruptions where posts failed to load despite the platform opening, this outage prevented X from loading altogether for many users. The problem also differed from recent Cloudflare-related technical issues that had temporarily affected the platform in earlier incidents.

Users across India, including in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, reported difficulties in refreshing feeds, posting updates and accessing content through both the website and mobile application. Many users encountered error messages stating, “Something went wrong, but don’t fret – it’s not your fault,” on the web version.

On the mobile app, logged-in users were unable to retrieve posts, with messages prompting them to try again later. The outage extended beyond the main social media platform, impacting Grok as well, with several users reporting that the AI chatbot failed to load or remained unresponsive.

The disruption appeared to affect multiple regions simultaneously, suggesting a widespread technical issue rather than a localised failure. As of the latest update, X had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or providing a timeline for full restoration of services.
