There could be aliens, contact with them can be hazardous: ISRO chief

Humans have always been curious about extraterrestrials. Everyone doubts that there are human-like creatures on the alien planet. The search for extraterrestrial life is one of the major endeavours of the scientific world. Are there similar conditions of Earth on other planets? Did life ever exist in the past? Is it likely in the future? Scientists are looking for answers to such questions.
Meanwhile, ISRO chief S Somnath puts forward some important observations related to extraterrestrial life. He says that there could be extraterrestrials in the universe and that they might be thousands of years more advanced than humans. He was speaking on a podcast with Ranveer Alabadia.
“Imagine a culture which is 200 years behind you and a culture which is 1000 years ahead,” he says. He posits ideas about the possibility of extraterrestrial life beyond our current ability to detect and know.
“Sometimes there may be people here who are technologically and evolutionarily a thousand years ahead of humans. They may observe or interact with the universe in ways that we cannot understand. Humans may be relatively new among cosmic beings,” he said.
At the same time, the ISRO chief added that he was happy that humans have yet to come into contact with extraterrestrial life. Life on Earth evolved from a common ancestor. Somnath says the reason for the same is that extraterrestrials may have different genetic and protein structures.
“Contact with them can sometimes be dangerous, as one way of life has to dominate the other,” he explains.
