What’s going wrong with Realme 16 Pro? Users report heating and camera bugs

The Realme 16 Pro series, launched with claims of flagship-level performance at a mid-range price, is drawing widespread complaints from early users across social media platforms and technology forums. The most frequently reported issues include excessive heating, inconsistent battery performance and unstable camera behaviour.
Users report that the device heats up rapidly during routine activities such as browsing social media or light multitasking, sometimes within minutes of use. The overheating is reportedly not limited to gaming or intensive workloads, raising concerns over system optimisation and thermal management. Several users have also claimed that the phone throttles performance once temperatures rise, resulting in lag and reduced display refresh rates.
Battery life has also emerged as a major concern. Despite featuring a large 5,500mAh battery, many users report that the device struggles to last a full day on a single charge. Complaints include rapid battery depletion in standby mode and increased drain when connected to 5G networks. Some users have stated that recent software updates have further reduced screen-on time rather than improving power efficiency.
The camera system, promoted as a highlight of the Realme 16 Pro Plus, has also come under scrutiny. Users report frequent camera app crashes, shutter lag, inconsistent colour processing and image noise, particularly in low-light modes. Video recording issues such as frame drops, unstable stabilisation and occasional colour tints have also been flagged.
On the software front, Realme UI 7.0, based on Android 16, is being criticised for poor optimisation and the presence of pre-installed applications that cannot be fully removed. Users claim these background apps contribute to both overheating and battery drain, further affecting overall performance.
The Realme 16 Pro series was positioned as a “flagship killer”, promising high-end specifications, advanced cooling technology and strong battery life. However, growing user feedback suggests the devices may be affected by hardware-software integration issues.
Multiple reports indicate that the phone’s cooling system is struggling to manage heat generated by the processor, leading to performance throttling and a less responsive user interface. This has raised questions about whether the device underwent sufficient optimisation and testing prior to launch.
Battery-related complaints centre on unexpected power loss during idle periods and excessive consumption when the phone searches for 5G signals, even in areas with stable network coverage. While the series supports 120W fast charging, users note that frequent recharging undermines the intended convenience of the feature.
Camera reliability remains another major issue. Crashes during lens switching, delayed shutter response and aggressive AI processing have been cited as key problems affecting photo and video output. Users have also expressed concerns over lost images due to app instability.
Additionally, Realme UI 7.0 has been criticised for being resource-heavy, with bloatware and system notifications reportedly impacting performance and user experience. As complaints continue to surface, users are calling on Realme to issue corrective software updates or clarify whether hardware-related fixes will be provided.
At the time of writing, Realme has not issued an official statement addressing the reported issues.
