Kozhikode welcomes new football club as enthusiasm soars

Kozhikode erupted in excitement as the city embraced its new football club, Calicut FC, despite heavy rain and lightning. The enthusiasm for football in Kozhikode, often referred to as the football capital of Kerala, was evident as locals cheered during the team introductions. The unveiling event showcased the club's squad, including six international players and nine national stars.

Sports commentator Shaju Damodaran introduced the team, with speeches from team owner V.K. Mathews, MLA Ahammed Devarkovil, and Kerala Football Association President Nawas Meeran. Calicut FC’s first match is scheduled for September 10 at the Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode, with five home matches planned for the season. Prior to the launch, a friendly match between Mohammedan SC (Kolkata) and Calicut FC was held at the same venue, where Kolkata Mohammedan won 1-0.

Shafi Parambil confident of Calicut’s victory

In a sporting manner, MP Shafi Parambil expressed confidence that Calicut FC will win their maiden Super League title. His statement was a rebuttal to Abdul Wahab MP, who had earlier predicted that his hometown of Malappuram would emerge victorious in the tournament. Kozhikode is all set to embrace another exciting season of football.

The other teams featured in the tournament include Thiruvananthapuram Kombans FC, Forca Kochi FC, Thrissur Magic FC, Malappuram FC and Kannur Warriors FC.

International coaches will be guiding the six participating teams. The head coaches come from Brazil, Spain, Italy, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. the  assistant coaches are A-Licensed professionals from India, including Malayali coaches Jo Paul Ancheri and Satheevan Balan.
