Punjab Kings' post on India-Pakistan match draws attention amid rising boycott calls

Chandigarh: As tensions run high amid growing calls to boycott the India vs Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup, IPL franchise Punjab Kings have taken a distinctive stance with their social media promotion. Unlike some teams that have disabled comments or avoided controversy, Punjab Kings posted a graphic highlighting India’s upcoming match but notably omitted Pakistan’s name and logo, all while keeping comments open on their posts.
Their social media post, captioned “Game 2 for the defending champions. Let’s goooo #AsiaCup2025 #INDv,” featured the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) emblem but left the space for Pakistan blank. This subtle yet clear move came amid a nationwide debate over whether India should play Pakistan following recent terror attacks and national security concerns.
The political backdrop has been intensified by a petition to the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the India-Pakistan match, citing national dignity and security, though the court declined an urgent hearing, allowing the game to proceed.
