Gaza: Two American aid workers were injured in southern Gaza on Saturday when attackers reportedly threw grenades at an aid centre operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the US- and Israeli-backed relief group announced in a statement.

The incident took place at the SDS-3 distribution site in Khan Yunis during food distribution operations. “Two American aid workers were injured in a targeted terrorist attack,” said the GHF. “They are currently in stable condition.”

According to preliminary findings, two assailants carried out the attack by throwing two grenades toward the aid workers. The Israeli military confirmed it evacuated the wounded from the area.

The GHF began operating on May 26 in response to a severe food crisis in Gaza, after Israel suspended the delivery of aid supplies into the besieged territory for over two months. The situation has led to warnings of impending famine, with international agencies urging action.

However, food distribution efforts by GHF have frequently faced violence and chaos. The UN Human Rights Office reported on Friday that over 500 people have died while waiting at food distribution points, many allegedly shot by Israeli forces. Israel has attributed the violence to Hamas, claiming the group uses crowds as shields and targets.

“GHF has repeatedly warned of credible threats from Hamas, including explicit plans to target American personnel, Palestinian aid workers, and the civilians who rely on our sites for food,” the foundation said in its statement. “Today's attack tragically affirms those warnings.”

The identities of the wounded Americans have not been released, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack at this time.

Tensions remain high in Gaza amid ongoing humanitarian crises and frequent clashes. Aid agencies and international observers continue to express alarm over the deteriorating conditions and the safety risks facing both aid workers and civilians.
